Lady on massage bed

Aftercare following massage.

As part of our duty of care to all our clients a consultation is conducted at the beginning of the first massage appointment. It is important in order to establish the client’s medical history and lifestyle.

Nikki will discuss posture, exercise, allergies, work patterns and stress indicators. This information helps Nikki to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

It is important to let your therapist know if you have any medical problem such as skin allergies or skin conditions, joint problems, any history of heart problems. If you are / may be pregnant or if you have recently had a surgery.

Following a massage, you should be aware that you may experience different effects and take some precautions.

As everyone is different and may ‘react’ differently to a massage treatment these symptoms are quite normal and are a good sign that the treatment is working.

  • Cold like symptoms
  • Stuffy, blocked or runny nose
  • Sleepy & fatigued or deeply relaxed
  • Irritable
  • Energised
  • Temporary worsening of symptoms
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Sounder sleep

After a massage treatment, I recommend you do the following;

  • Drink plenty of still water over the next 24 hours following treatment
  • If you feel tired, rest as much as possible
  • Eat only a light meal
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 12 hours
  • Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for the rest of the day after treatment or for at least 24 hours

You may experience a headache and/or dizziness due to improved circulation but this will only be temporary. Soreness and tenderness on areas worked on during your massage. Be careful when walking or driving after massage ensuring you recover sufficiently.

Ribble Therapy helps YOU to move and feel better by making all treatments individual to you. If you would like to discuss how massage therapy can help you feel better contact Nikki on 07801 580694 or email .
